Full-length, full-width structurally welded steel chassis with two 250 x 75mm lipped-channel, longitudinal beams welded face to face and 45 x 45 x 3mm angle outriggers and cross-members. The complete assembly is degreased, derusted and cleaned before dipping into self-etch red oxide primer. For added protection, the chassis is coated with a waterproof, malleable compound called Plaswax or similar which forms a tenacious wax-like surfacing.
ROOF AND CEILING CONSTRUCTION
The roof is a 10º-pitch type constructed with pretreated timber trusses and covered externally with IBR roof sheeting. The ceilings are 4,8mm thick hardboard covered with textured PVC vinylast, incorporating concealed fixings. Insulation in the roof is 50mm thick (12,5kg/m3) pink fibreglass wool insulation covering the top of the ceiling.
SIDEWALL CONSTRUCTION
The side walls are rigidly framed with treated kiln-dried 36 x 72mm pine timber studs at 400mm centres. The perimeter walls are fully insulated with 50mm thick (12,5kg/m3) pink fibreglass wool. Interior wall panels are 4mm thick decorative patterned plywood finish. Panels are precisely fitted, glued and fastened to the studs. The standard exterior finish is 0,5mm Chromadek, which is a galvanised, prepainted finish.
All window frames are aluminium fitted with 4mm thick glass. The area of the windows is equal to or greater than 10% of the gross areas of each habitable room.
FLOOR AND SUB-CONSTRUCTION
For stability, floors are constructed of treated kiln-dried 35 x 70mm timber. Decks are heavy-duty, treated timber floors, glued and fastened to the joints and crossmembers. The entire floor is bolted down to the chassis.
ELECTRICS
Units are wired for connecting to 220 volt supply in accordance with SABS 0142:1987 and are fitted with earth-leakage protection and distribution boards. Lights, plugs, geyser and interior electrical fittings are installed as shown on the layout diagrams.
PLUMBING
Copper piping is used for water supply and PVC fittings for sewerage and wastewater.
TRANSPORT AND HANDLING
It is extremely important that the following points are taken into consideration before delivery can be effected:
- Each module/slice of the doublewide unit will be transported separately on a low-bed trailer and joined on site by a siting team.
- The site should be level and compacted, it should not slope more than 200mm over the length and 100mm over the width of the unit.
- Site must be accessible for an abnormally large load. All trees and/or other obstacles that may be in the way must be removed beforehand to allow easy access.
- Gates into property must be a minimum of four (4) metres wide, and truck must have a straight run-up of at least 25 metres to allow bigger units ( 9m and upwards ) to be offloaded into position, and allow trucks to drive out from under unit after having lifting it.
- Unit will be dropped onto trestles and levelled in order to allow doors to open freely. Final levelling must be done by client unless siting is done and charged for by Speedspace.
- A site inspection prior to delivery can be arranged.
